[texte imprimé]VOL. 3. Sanitation and disease : health aspects of excreta and wastewater management , - WASHINGTON (ETATS UNIS) : BANQUE MONDIALE, 1983, 501 P.
"This book, the third volume of the series, addresses the public health, microbiological and parasitological aspects of sanitation. In all countries, public health is of central importance in the design and implementation of excreta disposal projects, and better health is the main social and economic benefit the planners and economists hope to realize by investing in excreta disposal systems. To achieve this gain, as much information as possible is needed about the interaction of excreta and health information concerning not only broad epidemiological issues of disease prevention through improved excreta disposal, but also the effect of particular excreta disposal and reuse technologies on the survival and dissemination of particular pathogens". (Extrait du résumé de l'éditeur).

"Public health is of central importance in the design and implementation of improved excreta disposal projects. Improvements in health are the main social and economic benefit which planners and economists hope to acheieve by investing in excreta disposal. It is therefore necessary to make available as much information as possible about the interaction between excreta and health in order thant engineers and planners may make informed and rational decisions. The information that is required not only concerns the broad epidemiological issues of the impact on disease of improvements in excreta disposal, but alos the ways in wich particular excreta disposal and reuse technolgies affect the survival and dissemination of particular pathogens. This book sets out to provide such information. It is intended for planners, engineers, economists and health workers and has been written with a minimum of jargon so that it can be readily absorbed by people from differing professional backgrounds. This paper presents a distilllation of available knowledge on excreta, night soil, sewage and health. The emphasis is on presenting the complex, and sometimes contradictory, evidence as clearly and concisely as possible".
